SIS440 Caulk, the Proven Leader in the Marine Industry

SIS440 Caulk, developed specifically for teak deck seams, has established itself as the proven leader in the marine industry. This one-part, paste-like neutral cure formulation reacts with the moisture in the air to form a tough, flexible solid rubber compound. The sealant's exceptional features include its ability to resist sagging during the curing process, excellent temperature stability, and superior chemical resistance once cured.

The neutral cure nature of the sealant ensures that it is non-corrosive to all substrates, thereby protecting the surrounding environment and structures. Additionally, it provides minimum shrinkage, making it easy to sand without clogging the sandpaper.

For optimal storage, the sealant should be kept in a dry area with temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and below 80°F (26°C). It is important to avoid exposure to direct sunlight, extreme heat, or freezing conditions. The sealant has a shelf life of 18 months from the date of manufacture, as indicated on the packaging.

SIS440 Caulk is not designed for use under the waterline, but it has a wide range of other applications, including bedding deck equipment and hardware, bedding parts (steps, pads, etc.), caulking seams in other wood decks, and sealing edges around windows. It is also suitable for construction projects.

With more than 50,000 decks manufactured and installed in 35 years, and 166 miles (267 km) of caulked seams per year, SIS440 Caulk has been well-tested and proven to perform exceptionally well in both hot and cold climates. It is widely used by boat builders, boat repair yards, marinas, private boat owners, cruise ships, and ship chandleries.

Boasting a high-quality marine polymer, SIS440 Caulk comes in a 10oz cartridge of black caulk. It is a one-part silane polymer that forms a solid rubber compound with the highest rated UV resistance. The sealant also exhibits excellent resistance to chemicals and superior temperature stability.

The thixotropic paste-like consistency of SIS440 Caulk ensures that it does not drip or sag, making it easy to work with. As a one-step process, it saves application time and is environmentally friendly, as it contains no solvents. This not only makes it safer for the work environment but also more economical, reducing waste.

To achieve a first-class appearance, SIS440 Caulk should be used in seams ranging from 3 to 10mm wide, with the seam depth being equal to or greater than the seam width. The caulk must fill the entire depth of the seam, and bond-breaker tape is recommended for seams of 5mm (3/16") or deeper to ensure full-depth caulk seams, which extend the teak deck's lifespan.

Compared to polysulfide, polyurethane, and MS polymers, SIS440 Caulk cures to provide better adhesion, longevity, and appearance. The black caulk is ready for sanding after a minimum of 48 hours at 68°F (20°C), although larger seams may require additional time.

SIS440 Caulk is available in white and gray, and it meets Federal Specifications and ASTM C920 standards. Manufactured in an ISO 9001 facility, the product has a shelf life of 18 months from the date of manufacture.
